How can my MP help?
As a Member of Parliament, my role is to represent all the people in my electorate, not just those who voted for me. I am here to help you with all matters for which central government is responsible.
REPRESENTATION
As the MP for the North Shore electorate, I am the representative in Parliament of the views of local people and groups. Whatever topic is being discussed, I need to take into consideration how this will affect the North Shore electorate. Occasionally I will run surveys, or ask for your views on a specific topic.
To share your thoughts about central government issue, you can:
- Write me a letter or send me an email
- Make an appointment at a Monday’s with Maggie Clinic (see button on right hand side)
- Make a submission (guide to making a submission can be found on the Parliamentary website)
I am also Parliament’s representative to the people, providing information about changes in policy and law to the people of the electorate.
ADVOCACY
People often approach an MP when they do not know who else to go to for help.
If you are experiencing problems with central government departments, I can help to provide clarification and assistance. Such areas include:
- Immigration
- Housing
- Welfare
- Health
- Education
Often, contact with the local branch of the relevant government department will provide a solution. If further information is required, I may need to be in contact with the appropriate Minister. However, if the government department has followed the correct legislated processes, it may be that there is little more that can be done.
Sometimes people will contact my office with frustrations they are having with local issues – street maintenance, park facilities, resource consent procedures. Such areas are the responsibility of local government, and should be addressed to the Auckland Council.
Your representatives on the Council are the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board. You can find their contact details on this link: Devonport/Takapuna Local Board.
I am unable to help in situations where you have a personal issue with another individual, and cannot be involved in decisions made by the courts. Whatever the reason you have for contacting me, I promise to do my best to point you in the right direction for assistance.
